In the afternoon you can visit the Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, the heart of the Takayama Festival. This festival is held annually in April and October and is regarded as one of the most beautiful festivals in Japan. Nearby you can also visit the Takayama Festival Floats museum, which displays a selection of floats paraded during the festival and Shishi Kaikan, where traditional artefacts such as lion masks and handmade wooden dolls made by the region’s skilled artisans are on display.
